Woman fatally shot by policeman in Montego Bay

A deadly confrontation between a woman and a policeman in downtown Montego Bay, St James, has left the woman dead.

The incident occurred along Barnett Street on Wednesday morning.

According to reports, the woman, believed to be a sex worker, was involved in an altercation with another woman when the policeman intervened.

However, the situation took a deadly turn when the woman allegedly became enraged and attacked the officer.

In response, the policeman drew his service pistol and opened fire, striking the woman in her upper body. Despite efforts to save her, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident marks the fourth police-related fatality in St James within a 48-hour period. Yesterday, three men were killed by the St James police in an alleged shootout in Orange district.

The identity of the latest police-related fatality has not been confirmed, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is underway.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDEOM) is also probing the fatal shootings by the police in St James.
