A frantic search is underway at the Kingston Wharves for a stevedore who reportedly fell overboard a ship on Tuesday night.
The male employee is said to be a popular figure who came to national attention after his story was highlighted in the newspaper that he could not find employment, despite gaining a diploma in international shipping and logistics.
The man subsequently landed his dream job at Kingston Wharves, ending his stint as a car washer. He is now responsible for loading and off loading ships.
According to a statement from Kingston Wharves Limited (KWL) at approximately 10:05 pm on Tuesday, July 12, while performing stevedoring operations aboard a vessel docked at Berth 8, an employee fell overboard.
The KWL says rescue protocols were immediately activated.
It says the Coast Guard and Marine Police were contacted to provide search and rescue operations, along with private personnel engaged by KWL.
Search efforts continue this morning for the missing employee.
