A woman was allegedly slapped by a male police officer during a heated argument at a police station reportedly in south eastern Jamaica.
The incident reportedly occurred in St Thomas recently.
The video of the heated exchanges and the aftermath of the slap have since gone viral.
The policeman, attired in a white shirt, hat and blue pants, is seen ordering a woman in red out of the station. Other persons, mainly women, were seen exiting the police station.
The cop and the woman then kick off a heated exchange, during which she was slapped hard to the face. Before the slap, the cop complained of “disrespect”.
Calls to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) to determine whether the video has garnered their attention, was futile up to publication time.
Meanwhile, the video has resulted in a contentious debate on social media.
“No policeman should put his hand on a woman no matter. Would he want someone to hit his sister like that?” said one woman on Instagram.
“Nobody knows how the altercation started and what led the cop head to chip. Stop using piece of video to judge nuh,” said one male Instagrammer.
Said another man: “Mi lose off a you Mr Squaddie, ’cause how u fi box a woman like that?”
The police are yet to comment publicly on the altercation.
