Prominent attorney Valerie Neita Robertson is accusing Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn of moving forward with a corruption case against People’s National Party (PNP) politician Kern Spencer years ago, despite Llewellyn’s predecessor finding no evidence after a review of the file.

PNP supporter and attorney Valerie Neita Robertson makes some startling revelations about Kern Spencer’s corruption case that was eventually dismissed.

Robertson, a King’s Counsel, was speaking last Thursday at the PNP’s the Braes River Divisional Conference in St Elizabeth, where she said she was telling the “truth” about the fraud and corruption case against Spencer stemming from the now-called Cuban Light Bulb Scandal.

Spencer, a former junior energy minister and North East St Elizabeth parliamentarian, was found not guilty of money laundering and illicit enrichment charges in March 2014.

Despite not being convicted of any crime, his political opponents in the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) continue to speak out against his attempts to re-enter representational politics.

Spencer is making an attempt to be the PNP caretaker candidate in his old St Elizabeth stomping ground.

Robertson, declaring that she was not afraid of a lawsuit, said that the former DPP Kent Pantry told her that after reviewing Spencer’s case file before leaving office as the State’s top prosecutor, said he found no case against the PNP official.

However, Robertson said when Llewellyn was appointed DPP she ruled that Spencer should be charged in 2009.

The veteran attorney said there was no evidence at all against Spencer, and the Cuban Light Blub programme benefited the country.
