Jamaica’s Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson-Smith has gained major support in her bid for the post of Commonwealth Secretary-General following an endorsement by United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
The UK’s position was outlined in tweet from Johnson on Thursday morning.
He stated that with a month to go until the Commonwealth comes together in Rwanda, he was delighted to confirm the UK will support Johnson-Smith’s campaign to be the next Secretary-General.
Johnson said the Jamaican has the vast experience and support to unite the Commonwealth nations and seize the opportunities ahead.
The Office of Commonwealth Secretariat is based in the UK.
Baroness Patricia Scotland, the sixth Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations, has defended her stewardship in her bid to be re-elected to the post.
