A man suspected to be a major player in the importation of illegal guns, and who was reportedly granted a licensed firearm by a former Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Government Minister, has been captured.
The suspect, who is the alleged leader of the 90’s gang based in Central Kingston and New York City, was nabbed at a party in St Ann on Saturday.
The man is to be questioned in relation to March’s seizure of 21 illegal guns and 2,216 rounds of ammunition at the Queens warehouse on Industrial Terrace.
Three M15 rifles and 18 handguns were among the high-powered weapons seized.
Law enforcement sources told Jam Street Journal that the suspect was deported to Jamaica in 2009 after serving time in the US on drug trafficking charges.
He reportedly applied to the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) for a firearm, but was denied in March of 2012.
On August 9, 2016, the JLP Government Minister approved the application for the firearm user licence on appeal.
Political circles are said to be in uproar over the arrest, as well as cronies connected to the alleged gang leader.
In relation to the seizure of the illegal weapons, two men from the United States were charged in connection with the seizure.
The two are: 36-year-old Jermaine Baker, a chef from Sunrise, Fort Lauderdale, and 42-year-old Dervan Brown from Bronx, New York.
They wer charged with illegal importation of firearms and ammunition.
