‘Sub10King’ Asafa Powell celebrates Guinness World Record certificate

Jamaican sprinter and former world 100 metre record holder Asafa Powell has officially received his certificate as the holder of a Guinness World Record.

In 2017, Powell was named as a record holder for most competitive 100 metre races completed in under 10 seconds. Powell has 97 such runs. 

Powell, in an Instagram post on Thursday, wrote: “It’s finally on the wall, proud accomplishment. #sub10king.”

The athlete, recorded his 97th sub-10 clocking with 9.94 seconds in an IAAF Diamond League race in Zurich in 2016.

His certificate said Powell achieved the feat between June 12, 2004 and September 1, 2016.

Several individuals from all walks of life have congratulated Powell for his stellar achievement.

Among them were retired Olympic gold medallist, Veronica Campbell-Brown, who wrote: “Congratulations.” 

St Ann South East Parliamentarian, Lisa Hanna, commented: “Big Up!”.

Current American sprinter Fred Kerley shared several fire emojis.

Even a post from the official Instagram account from Prime Minister Andrew Holness joined the foray, by commenting: “Congrats!”
