In a shocking turn of events, the highly anticipated Sting 2024 concert has been cancelled just hours before it was set to take place at Jamworld on Boxing Day.
A post from Sting’s official Instagram page on Wednesday said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regret to announce that STING has been postponed. We’ll be back bigger and better!”
In an interview with Jamaica Observer, Isaiah Laing, head of Supreme Promotions Ltd, said the event organiser was forced to pull the plug on the show after Clearsound Production Services Group, the company responsible for providing stage and sound, suddenly withdrew from the event.
Laing expressed his disappointment and frustration, stating, “I am saddened because this will cause a major ripple effect throughout the economy and the music industry.”
He was further quoted by Jamaica Observer as stating that, “Hundreds of vendors and concessionaires have invested their money and wanted to recoup during the show, dozens of artistes have rehearsed and are waiting for their chance to shine, and thousands of patrons will be disappointed by the cancellation of the show, but it is beyond my control.”
Despite having paid Clearsound Production in full, Laing explained that the company cited a “non-compliance of RTGS processing standards” due to the public holidays, which resulted in the delayed reflection of the payment in their account.
Laing assured that patrons who purchased tickets online will receive a full refund.
The cancellation is a significant blow to the music industry, with the planned Sting 2024 lineup featuring prominent acts such as Tommy Lee Sparta, Turbulence, and Teflon.
The sudden withdrawal of Clearsound Production has left many questions unanswered, and the cancellation of Sting 2024 is a disappointing end to what promised to be an exciting event.
