The police are reporting that, within the first hour of the State of Emergency (SOE) in St Catherine, a wanted man was arrested, along with a firearm seized.
The operational activities were conducted in the St Catherine South Division on Friday morning.
“The police conducted targeted operations in the Gregory Park area and apprehended a man who is wanted for murder and shootings,” said a social media post from the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
“One .38 revolver loaded with six .38 cartridges was also seized. The man will be interviewed by detectives in relation to other crimes committed in the parish. His identity is being withheld at this time,” the JCF added.
The operations are continuing.
The Government said it declared an SOE to address the rising crime affecting St Catherine, which resulted in the shooting of two men in the old capital of Spanish Town.
