Jam Street Journal understands that a senior member of the People’s National Party (PNP) has been recently diagnosed with a life-threatening disease.
The member, whose identity will not be disclosed, has been diagnosed with a form of cancer.
According to sources close to the PNP, the member received the diagnosis a few weeks ago and has been undergoing treatment since then, with travels overseas to gain the best treatment possible.
Only close affiliates of the official have reportedly been advised.
In a response to our news team, one source said those affiliates are in solidarity with their member and his family during this time.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleague and his family as he navigates through this challenging time. We stand with him in his fight against this disease and offer our unwavering support,” the source said.
The spokesperson further added, “Our member has been a dedicated and committed member of the PNP for many years. His contribution to the party and Jamaica as a whole cannot be overstated.”
Pressed for more information, the source said: “We ask that the public respect his privacy during this time and allow him to focus on his treatment and recovery.”
The PNP has not provided any further details regarding the member’s diagnosis or their current condition, or the veracity of the claims to date.
Some PNP bloggers, aligned to one faction of the party, have hinted at the illness of a PNP senior member in recent months, but that individual has remained silent on those rumours.
