A retired educator was shot and killed in Gayle, St Mary on Monday afternoon, shocking the small rural town.
Dead is 69-year-old Dennis Edwards, otherwise called Mr Mattar, of Farm Pen district in Gayle.
According to a police report, Edwards was walking along the Gayle main road at about 1:45 pm, when he was pounced upon by unknown assailants and shot in the upper body.
His attackers then fled the scene.
Edwards was pronounced dead at the Gayle clinic by a doctor on duty.
Cops are pursuing several leads in the incident.
A total of 28 murders have been recorded in St Mary since the start of the year.
