Jamaican-born Manchester City and English footballer Raheem Sterling has given a huge endorsement to fast-rising dancehall act, Jahshii, after he said the deejay occupies a big space on his playlist.
Sterling made the revelation in an interview with Television Jamaica’s journalist Anthony Miller at the Trench Town playfield on Tuesday, March 22.
The renowned footballer, who spent his younger years in Marverly, participated in a friendly football game as part of the tour of Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, to Jamaica.
In a lighter moment, Sterling was asked about what was on his playlist, to which he immediately mentioned Jahshii.
“Right now to be fair, Jahshii.  I like his music. I think the message that he’s pushing across in terms of the positivity, the struggle that he’s been through and he’s right. And that’s my sort of music – cultural music,” said Sterling.
The Kingston-born football prodigie, during his trip to his native country, was designated Jamaica’s new tourism ambassador in Europe, and will assist in the public relation campaign surrounding Jamaica’s 60th independence celebrations.
For Jahshii, the endorsement by Sterling is a big boost for his already booming career.
His collaboration with Morgan Heritage entitled, Headline Fi Front Page, continues to perform well.
The 21-year-old made headlines last year during an interview with Anthony Miller, during which he remarked “police ah corruption”.
Though he was bashed for some of his comments, Jahshii’s reputation soared, and interest in the artiste also boomed.
The artiste, whose given name is Mluleki Tafari Clarke, is signed to Herah Music Productions (HMP). Among his songs are Keep Up, Cream Of The Crop with Navaz and 25/8.
He is a past student of Excelsior High School and began his musical career at the young age of four with the song, Me Name Jahshii, in 2004.
