Jamaican singer Denyque revealed that she has been separated from her husband, Careem Mullings.

The couple have been married for five years.

The ‘Make Me Believe You’ singer gave the confirmation of the separation from her husband on a recent episode of Sim Soul Sessions earlier this month.

She said she was not too eager to address the rumours of their split because of a desire to retain her peace and power.

She made it clear, as well, that she and her husband had not ended their marriage, but had simply “separated”.

“I feel like for a lot of my adult years just learning, figuring life out, taking bumps, falling, getting back up — I’ve given a lot of my power away and I feel like now is the time where I’m learning to hone it back in and pull it back in,” she explained. “I’m unlearning a lot and relearning so much more.”

The duo got married back in 2017 and the union produced two children.

The artiste said the breakdown comes after she released a single titled, Proud Wifey.

“The situation that really started it for me was when I put out a song called Proud Wifey and it was not until I put out that song that I started hearing these rumours…oh, my partner is cheating on me, my husband is this my husband is that… is Denyque husband all over the news in just some scandalous, negative stuff and when I track back I’m like, ‘yo, a me cause dis enuh’ because before I put out that song, no rumours, nobody was saying anything. But, the minute this song dropped it was just like wow, what did I do?” she recounted.

Denyque burst onto the music scene in 2008.

Since tying the not in 2017, her marriage has been plagued by rumours that her husband was cheating behind her back while she tried to play the role as a loving wife and mother.

For instance, back in 2020, Denyque publicly denounced rumours of her husband cheating.

There were also criticisms, too, that the songstress forced Mullings to marry her.

Looking back, Denyque says this was not her intention.

“I didn’t even see it as pressure, it was really just sitting down like Sim, hold on I did that though,” she told Simone Cooper, the host of Sim Soul Sessions.

Continuing, Denyque said: “Seeing all of these things happening around me and saying I feel like we’re going nowhere, wasting time, I’m not dating to just date.

“I’m not having children until we’re at that place, so, that was what that was. So, I really had to look into myself and say what were the steps that you took that made this what it is. It’s never just one person that’s wrong, no matter how you wanna just put it on somebody else. Even if they do deserve the entirety of the wrong, the other person does play a part whether good or bad,” she said.

Amid it all, Denyque said she loves being a wife.

“I wanna be somebody’s baby and I have no qualms with that! I love it. I love catering to my person, I love being a wife, I love being that person. I’m a natural nurturer; I like to take care of people but I need my partner to never forget that outside of being yours, I’m also this and that’s where the scales kinda tip,” she insisted.
