Jamaica Labour Party caretaker for the Southboro Division in St Catherine, Lennox Hines, has been shot dead.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston, resulting in a major pile-up of traffic.
According to preliminary reports, the incident took place shortly after 5:08 pm.
Hines was reportedly trailed in traffic by men on motorcycles who opened gunfire.
A woman who was allegedly in the vehicle was shot, as well, and is undergoing treatment at hospital.
Commenting only on the traffic nightmare so far, the Jamaica Constabulary Force said: “Motorists who are heading towards Portmore, St. Catherine from Hagley Park road in Kingston are being asked to divert to Spanish town road.
“This as sections of Marcus Garvey Drive will be closed to facilitate the processing of a crime scene.”
