A 27-year-old man from Portland is dead after being attacked by the family members of another man he had injured during an earlier altercation.
The deceased has been identified as Michael Spoughbourgh, a resident of West Norman Lane in Buff Bay, Portland.
According to police reports, the incident began around 1:00 pm on Friday when Spoughbourgh got into an altercation with another young man in Buff Bay.
Spoughbourgh allegedly left the scene and returned with a machete, which he used to inflict a wound on the man’s hand.
While the injured man was reporting the incident at the police station, three of his family members allegedly went in pursuit of Spoughbourgh. They attacked him with stones and a baseball bat, leaving him with several injuries.
Spoughbourgh was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
The Buff Bay police have detained the three family members implicated in the incident, and an investigation is ongoing.
