A major breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the gruesome murder of veteran journalist Barbara Gayle, with detectives charging Travis Ellis with her murder.

Ellis, who was formally charged on Tuesday evening, is accused of brutally killing Gayle, who was found dead at her Caymanas Estate home on December 17 with multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma to her head.

According to investigators, Ellis was last seen with Gayle on December 16, and his movements on that day have been reconstructed as part of the investigation. It is alleged that Ellis broke into a house in Phase Two of the housing development on the same day, and then fled to Phase One, where he went to Gayle’s home.

Investigators believe that Ellis engaged Gayle in conversation before launching a vicious attack on her inside her home.

Gayle’s GLA 180 Mercedes Benz was later found abandoned along the Dyke Road in Portmore, St Catherine, with evidence suggesting that Ellis drove the vehicle to the location after the murder.

Ellis was charged last Friday with housebreaking in relation to the separate home invasion incident.

The investigation into Gayle’s murder is ongoing as detectives work to piece together the events surrounding her tragic death.
