Javar Hill, a 22-year-old vendor from Portmore, St Catherine, appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Monday to face charges of robbery and unlawful wounding in relation to an alleged failed sexual transaction with another man.
According to reports, Hill allegedly robbed a man of his Samsung S23 phone, valued at $110,000, in the New Kingston area on April 29.
Hill told the court the complainant refused to pay him for “sexual services”, leading to Hill hitting him in the face twice.
However, Hill denied stealing the phone, despite the complainant’s adamant claims. The police were able to track the phone, leading to Hill’s arrest in the Half Way Tree area the said night.
When Hill appeared before the court, the judge remanded him into custody, as the police are investigating him for other robbery incidents.
“Yuh Honour, a lie dem a tell pon me. Me anuh tief, a Portmore me live and everybody knows me a hard working vendor, but tings rough and me agree to do a thing for a money and the man nuh want pay…,” Hill told the court, which erupted in a split between laughter and astonishment.
The judge, however, said she would not be hearing anything further and encouraged Hill to seek the services of an attorney to assist with his defence.
The matter will return to court on June 4.
