Social media influencer and aspiring dancehall entertainer Kizzy Don is continuing the trend of sharing cooking skills online, with latest meal preparation being that of salt fish and ground provision.
However, social media users have been critical of the influencer’s cooking skills.
During the cooking segment, Kizzy added a voice-over to ensure that her followers could follow the step-by-step process of preparing her meal.
To start off, Kizzy shows herself cutting up some sweet potatoes and blending her seasonings for her salt fish.
After boiling the salt fish, the entertainer added what she called her tomato paste to a frying pan with the salt fish. She emphasised that she does not use oil in the preparation of her food.
She ends the video by showing her food; cooked-up salt fish, fried plantains and boiled sweet potatoes.
But some Instagram users were appalled by Kizzy’s preparation of the salt fish, in particular.
“Kizzy all now water don’t ketch the salt fish; it must taste like brine,” said blogger Pinkwall, who posted a copy of Kizzy’s video.
Comedian Majah Hype said sarcastically: “Open ah restaurant. Mumma it woulda do good!!”
Said a woman: “And believe it or not these are the ones that the get nice good man dem.”
A woman advised Kizzy to stick to entertainment, while another said she should get some “well deserved cooking lessons”.
Some Instagrammers did not agree with the backlash that Kizzy faced. In fact, some said her meal preparation must be commended.
“Me understand what she a try do; she used the right seasoning. I saw onion, tomato and pepper, but she don’t use oil, so she blend her seasonings to substitute using oil to sauté her saltfish with… I really don’t see the issue here,” a woman commented.
Shared another: “This is good for weight loss. This is how she maintains her weight. The people dem will now cuss her out and the lady never say she a cook fi man.”
Added another: “She (Kizzy) could have steam the veggies; just add a little water to the pan add the chopped veggies and cover it.
“But I get it tho, it’s not the traditional way, and most Jamaicans don’t like changes, etcetera, or if its not done the traditional way, it’s not the right way, but she is trying to eat healthy which is good.”
