Fans of incarcerated dancehall star Vybz Kartel are celebrating after news emerged which clarified that his murder appeal is still to be heard by the United Kingdom Privy Council.

Earlier news reports suggested Kartel was freed, but they were false.

What was, in fact, refused was his bid to introduce fresh evidence to support his murder appeal.

Lawyers representing Kartel had an expert witness examine a phone in the case.

They then applied to the Privy Council for fresh information from the expert to be heard as part of the appeal.

The application has been rejected by the court.

Kartel’s substantial appeal of his conviction and sentencing is still to be heard, but a date has not been set.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, and fellow entertainer Shawn Storm, real name Shawn Campbell, as well as Kahira Jones and Andre St John were convicted in 2014 for killing Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams in 2011.

Williams’ body was never recovered by the police.

Below is the February 15 decision by the Judicial Committee of the UK Privy Council.
