The Jessie Ripoll Primary School community is mourning the loss of its principal, O’Neil Stevens, who tragically died in a motor vehicle accident in the United States on Friday.
Stevens’ wife, Camesha Lindsay Stevens, also succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.
According to initial reports, Stevens was traveling with his wife and two daughters when their vehicle developed a flat tire.
While attempting to repair the tire, Stevens and his wife were struck by a van. Despite emergency personnel’s best efforts, both Stevens and his wife succumbed to their injuries.
The school board has released a statement paying tribute to Stevens, describing him as “an exemplary leader, who was a beacon of dedication and inspiration.”
The Education Ministry will be deploying grief counselors to support students and staff during this difficult time.
As a mark of respect, the school will not reopen on Monday, January 6, as previously scheduled.
