Three Jamaicans were on Monday detained by the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) after it intercepted a vessel carrying approximately 2,000 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of J$1.1 billion.
According to a release from the JDF, the three individuals were detained and processed.
The members of the Maritime Air and Cyber Command of JDF said the 19 large and carefully prepared bales of a substance believed to be cocaine, were also seized.
The parcels are believed to have come from South America.
“The vessel transporting the illegal substance and three (3) persons on board sought to employ various evasive and risky manoeuvres to elude the members of the Security Force,” JDF stated.
“This, however, proved futile as the synergetic coordination between the JDF Air Wing and the JDF Coast Guard saw to the successful interdiction of the vessel,” it added.
The JDF says its.men and women continue to work assiduously to protect our national interests and the blue economy.
Citizens are encouraged to call the JDF tip hotline at 876-837-8888 to provide assistance in ridding our country of criminal activity.
