Jamaican child rights activist Betty Ann Blaine, who dedicated her life to protecting and advocating for the rights of children, has died.

Blaine founded the organisation “Hear the Children’s Cry” in 2002.

The organisation worked tirelessly to implement laws and policies to protect children, including the Child Care and Protection Act and the Ananda Alert system for missing children.

Blaine was a vocal critic of the Jamaican government’s handling of child protection issues and continued to fight for the rights of children until her passing.

Outside of her activism, Blaine was also a columnist and radio talk show host.

Tributes have poured in from across Jamaica and the world, with many praising Blaine’s dedication and commitment to the cause of child rights.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness was among those hailing Blaine.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Betty-Ann Blaine, an advocate for the rights and well-being of our nation’s children.

“Founder of Hear The Children’s Cry, Betty-Ann’s passion and commitment have touched countless lives, and her legacy will continue to inspire us to create a better Jamaica for all,” said Holness.
