A 32-year-old male Jamaican worker died on a farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake in Ontario, Canada on Friday, May 26, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security has confirmed.

The news came in a statement moments ago from the Pearnel Charles Jr-led ministry.

According to the statement, an initial report from the Jamaican Liaison Service in Canada confirmed that it received notification at approximately 7:25 am on May 26, that the first-time migrant worker did not awake that morning.

Efforts by paramedics to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, the ministry reported.

A subsequent report confirmed that the coroner had determined that the death was due to natural causes.

The family services unit of the ministry has been providing psycho-social support to the family of the deceased in Jamaica, and officials are making preparations to have the body repatriated to Jamaica.
