Elderly businessman robbed, assaulted by masked men in police gear

A shocking incident has sent shockwaves through the upper St Andrew area, after an elderly businessman and contractor was robbed and grievously assaulted by masked men dressed in police gear.

The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Tuesday the Graham Heights community of Barbican, St Andrew, where the victim was reportedly intercepted by men traveling in an unmarked motor vehicle.

The men, who were wearing police vests and masks, claimed to be police officers and proceeded to beat the victim, relieving him of his licensed firearm and $100,000 cash.

Acting Superintendent Randy Sweeney, head of the St Andrew North police division, confirmed the incident and launched an investigation into the crime, including the use of police paraphernalia.

“The report is that men dressed in police vest committed the crime… The investigation is also ongoing in that regard,” Sweeney said.

The victim is currently hospitalised in a Corporate Area hospital, receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the assault.

The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of citizens, particularly in light of the perpetrators’ use of police gear to carry out the crime.
