British pop sensation Ed Sheeran is basking in further success in his homeland after he surpassed a slew of American pop stars, including Taylor Swift, to earn the 2021 titles of the most played artist and the most played song in the UK.
That’s according to new data from music licensing company PPL.
Sheeran, also an ace songwriter, topped the PPL’s most played chart with following the release of his album = (equal) and the hit single “Bad Habits.”
UK acts Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Calvin Harris are among those in the Top 10, as well as The Weeknd, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, and P!nk.
Sheeran is the first artist to earn both titles twice.
The first time was in 2017, when his album ÷ (divide) and the subsequent single “Shape Of You” ruled the airwaves.
The only other artist to do the airplay chart double was Adele, when 21 and “Rolling in the Deep” dominated in 2011.
