A woman was reportedly shot and injured, while a dog was shot and killed in Denham Town, Kingston on Thursday.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has been notified of the incident and has since commenced a probe.
A Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier was reportedly involved in the incident, but it is yet to established what role, if any, he played in the shooting.
In a statement on Thursday, the JDF said it is aware of an incident involving the injury of a civilian, which occurred in the Denham Town Zone of Special Operation (ZOSO).
No further details were provided by the JDF.
Assistant Commissioner of INDECOM, Hamish Campbell told Jamaican media outlet, Irie FM News, that the investigative body received a report about the incident that occurred on Thursday morning.
Campbell said during the discharge of a firearm, the dog was shot and killed, and a lady standing beside the dog was injured in the leg. She was taken to the hospital.
INDECOM is awaiting a statement from the soldiers to proceed with its investigation.
