The accolades continue to increase for Dancehall Queen Spice.

This week she became the first Jamaican to be honoured by the New York City Council’s Black, Latino and Asian Caucus and the Power and Music Committee.

She was honoured with the International Music Ambassador Award for her outstanding achievements in music.

The Dancehall superstar shared the moment with fans on social media, where she expressed gratitude to the committee, while highlighting her journey from ‘Homeless to Greatness’.

“Be it known that today June 15th, the New York City Council’s Black, Latino and Asian Caucus honoured me with the International Music Ambassador Award for my outstanding achievements in music. Thank you Power music Awards. I’m humbled,” wrote Spice in Instagram

The other honourees included the Reverend Al Sharpton, legendary singer Patti LaBelle, hip hop icons Doug E. Fresh, Fat Joe, Busta Rhymes, Ja Rule, and Roxanne Shante.

Acclaimed video director Benny Boom was among the honourees.

Earlier this year, the Go Down Deh deejay was honoured at TV One’s Black Women in Media Awards.

The committee honors women of colour who have made exceptional contributions to communications, media, entertainment, literature, publishing, TV, and film.
