Cops nab ‘distant family member’ in murder of woman, 4 children – Chang

A suspect linked to to the murder of a 34-year-old woman and her children in Coco Piece, Clarendon on Tuesday morning, is now in police custody. 

This was revealed by Deputy Prime Minister Dr Horace Chang as he addressed Parliament on Tuesday.

“The police have actually apprehended someone that they have in custody who is, in fact, a distant family member, and is supposed to be involved,” Chang said, adding that the murder is stemming from a “domestic issue”.

Those killed are: Kemisha Wright, and her three daughters: 15-year-old Kimana Smith; Shemari Smith, 10; and five-year-old Kafana Smith.

Also killed is Smith’s son, one-year-old Kishaun Henry.

Residents discovered the victims with several stab wounds and their throats slashed. 

Rushane Barnett, 23, has been listed as a person of interest in relation to the killings.

It is not clear if he is the person now in custody. 

Barnett is a cousin of the deceased woman.
