The St Mary police have confirmed the identity of a pregnant teenager found dead near the Devon Pen Main Road on Sunday.
The victim has been identified as 16-year-old Jadene Gayle, also known as “Big Red,” who resided on Sligo Road, Mountain View Avenue, in Kingston.
Gayle’s mother confirmed her identity after viewing a photograph of the body. The police had earlier appealed to the public for assistance in identifying the body, highlighting notable tattoos, including the inscriptions “JvsC” and “Labeeb,” as well as a cross tattooed on her chest.
The police have detained Gayle’s 39-year-old boyfriend for questioning in connection with her death. He was apprehended during an operation on Tuesday night at his residence on Sligo Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Gayle’s body bore multiple marks of violence, including evidence of strangulation, abrasions, and bloodstains on the clothing used to wrap the remains. Videos circulating on social media show residents retrieving the body from a precipice, wrapped in a blue tarpaulin.
Gayle’s boyfriend is expected to be further questioned by the police in their ongoing probe of her murder.
