A gun attack at a wake on Ricketts Avenue in Maxfield Park on Saturday night turned deadly after a policeman was killed and four other persons left injured.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Constable Brian Martin, who was assigned to the Half-Way-Tree Police Station.
Preliminary reports are that Martin and the other persons were at the wake in the area popularly known as Frog City, when gunmen invaded the area and sprayed bullets around 10:00 pm.
When the shooting subsided, five persons were found suffering from gunshot wounds.
They were taken to the hospital, where Martin died while undergoing treatment. The other injured persons are reportedly admitted.
The police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) informed our teams that no motive has so far been established.
Investigations are ongoing.
