A female district constable has refused to give police investigators a statement in relation to the disappearance of 24-year-old social media influencer Donna-Lee Donaldson.
The district constable is the babymother of Donna-Lee’s boyfriend, who is also a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
The policeman has given a statement to the detectives, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Fitz Bailey, who was speaking at a special media conference on Monday, to update the nation on the gripping case.
“I indicated that he (the police officer boyfriend) was interviewed and a statement recorded. The woman constable was approached and she has refused to give a statement but we will deal with that at the appropriate time,” said Bailey.
“It’s an investigation that is ongoing and there are methods that we can employ to deal with that issue. As a citizen, you have a right and a statement is voluntary,” he added.
Donna-Lee has been missing since Tuesday, July 12. She was reported missing to the police a day later.
She was last seen in leaving her home with the her policeman boyfriend on Monday night. He claimed that after argument with Donna-Lee, she left Tuesday morning, and he has not seen her since.
Bailey said that the police not looking at a homicide but are ensuring that all evidence available is captured.
He said the police has expanded its investigation beyond that of a missing person and are not “taking a tunnel vision approach” but “looking at all the possibilities”.
Amid concern from some members of the public that the police were perhaps “dragging their feet” in the investigation, DCP Bailey sought to make it clear that the JCF is “committed to ensure that this investigation is done in a professional and transparent manner”.
He said investigators are yet to view the 20 hours of CCTV footage obtained from Miss Donaldson’s boyfriend’s apartment but the footage is being processed.
