A dramatic turn of events has unfolded in the case of four alleged gunmen who surrendered to police following a tense standoff in Spalding, Clarendon on December 8.

One of the accused, 29-year-old Shevon Cargnagie, escaped police custody at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) on Tuesday morning.

Cargnagie, a resident of Dykes Hill, Sanguinetti, Clarendon, was among the four men charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, shooting with intent, wounding with intent, and using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony.

His co-accused, Andre Shim-Hue, Toney Kelly, and Romaine Dockery, were remanded in custody when they appeared in the gun court on December 19. They are set to reappear in court on February 27.

A senior police source revealed that two of the gunmen, who had taken to social media platform TikTok to plead with police as they surrendered, sustained gunshot wounds to their hands. The police also seized four firearms, including an AK-47, following the incident.

The standoff, which drew a large crowd of onlookers to Spalding square, ended with the surrender of the four men.

However, the escape of Cargill from police custody has raised concerns about the security measures in place at the hospital.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape is ongoing.
