St Catherine disc jockey charged with murder of ‘Bylaw’

A disc jockey from St Catherine has been charged with shooting death of a man in Gregory Park in the parish last month.

Twenty-six-year-old Omar Manderson was charged recently with the murder of Richard ‘Bylaw’ Bloomfield, of a Christian Gardens address in Gregory Park, St Catherine.

Manderson, who is from Careless Drive in Portmore, has also been booked for the offences of illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

A statement from the police said about 11:45 a.m. on May 7, Bloomfield and two women were standing on Oklahoma Lane when they were pounced upon by two men who shot at them.

All three persons were taken to hospital, where Bloomfield succumbed to his injuries and the women were admitted for treatment.

A probe was launched and Manderson was arrested in Gregory Park on June 17, the day a state of public emergency was declared for St Catherine.

He was subsequently charged.

A date for his court appearance has not been finalised.
