The infighting in the People’s National Party (PNP) appears to be over, as several key operatives – who failed to support Mark Golding in his bid to become president of the party – have been included in his new shadow cabinet.
The new shadow cabinet consists of 20 people, up from the 19 that was announced in 2020.
Among the notable changes is Natalie Neita-Garvey, who was not a member of the previous cabinet.
She had supported Lisa Hanna’s bid to become president of the PNP in November 2020.
Neita-Garvey is now the spokesperson on local government, community development and sports, as well as Deputy Leader of Opposition Business in the House.
Another interesting change is the removal of Dr Angela Brown Burke as Opposition Spokesperson on Education and Training. Senator Damion Crawford now has that responsibility.
Brown Burke now shadows the Labour and Social Security Ministry, which was previously the remit of Senator Dr Floyd Morris.
Morris is now overseeing Housing and Sustainable Living.
Other changes include the removal of Gender Affairs from Senator Donna Scott Mottley’s portfolio, she is now Opposition Spokesperson on Information and Justice.
Her deputy is former MP Raymond Pryce, who also did not support Golding’s candidacy for PNP president.
Denise Daley is no longer Spokesperson for Local Government and Community Development, instead she will oversee Gender, Culture and Social Transformation.
Interestingly, Phillip Paulwell – who did not support Golding’s candidacy for PNP president and had resigned as the party’s vice principal – returns as Leader of Opposition Business in the House of Representatives.
He replaces Anthony Hylton who held the position for the past year and a half.
Hylton and Scott Mottley are the representatives from the Opposition on the Government’s Constitutional Reform Committee.
