The fatal shooting of Dancehall entertainer Choppa Banks during a shooting incident involving the police and gunmen is being probed by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
Banks, whose real is Swayne Hall, was shot during a shootout with police along the North-South Highway in St. Ann on Saturday.
Also killed during the attack was 42-year old Manton Brown, alias Banton, who was wanted in connection to several murders in St Ann and St Catherine.
Hall, a 22-year-old resident of Discovery Bay, St Ann, was popular for songs such as ChopMode and Bingo. Both songs glorified scamming and other forms of criminality.
Official reports had stated that Hall was abroad a white Toyota Crown motorcar about 4:00 pm when the police, acting on information, intercepted the vehicle.
However, the police were fired upon by the occupants and they returned fire. Brown, who is believed to be one of the shooters, was shot and later died.
Hall was also shot. It is unclear if he actually fired at the police.
One of the lawmen was also injured during the gunfire.
INDECOM, in a release on Sunday, said its response team took over 12 hours to process the scene, as the officers involved fired in excess of one hundred rounds.
INDECOM said so far, six officers attached to the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (CTOC) have provided initial accounts of the incident.
Their service weapons were collected for processing at the Government Forensic Laboratory.
One Springfield Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol, was identified as the recovered firearm at the incident scene.
The hands of both deceased men were tested for gunshot residue.
One of the officers who sustained a graze during the incident, was treated and released from hospital.
