Scores of residents in Westmoreland have mounted several roadblocks to protest the deteriorating conditions of their roadways.
Reports reaching Jam Street Journal are that the roadblocks have stretched to Darliston, Enfield, Beaufort, Bethel Town and other areas.
There also reports that taxi operators in Savanna-la-Mar have withdrawn their services.
“Persons are unable to go to work and children were sent back home because teachers can’t get to work,” lamented one woman on social media.
Several residents, while inconvenienced by the protests, have expressed overwhelming support for the protests.
Taxi operator Orville Cox told reporters that he and his colleagues are frustrated with the lack of attention by the authorities to the state of the roads.
“Front end lick out, you can’t drive good on the road if you load because di whole ah di bottom ah lick up, cause terrible hole on the street here. So, we tired ah di stupidness. We want some assistance,” he charged.
Up to publication time, more trees were being cut down by residents to block other sections of roadways in the parish.
