In condemning Friday night’s brutal murder of a police constable in Chantilly, Westmoreland, the Police High Command is adamant that it will not be deterred in its efforts to rid communities of crime.
The deceased policeman has since been identified as 47-year-old Richard Barrett, who was assigned to the Little London Police Station in the parish.
Preliminary reports had indicated that Barrett was shot dead at a bar he operated in Chantilly, Savanna-la-Mar.
In expressing condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the slain constable, the High Command assured that the Constabulary is “committed to conducting a thorough and detailed investigation” into the circumstances surrounding the murder.
“The Police will not be deterred by this latest attack. They will continue their focus on ridding communities of guns, gunmen and gangs who continue to cause death, pain and mayhem,” the High Command said in a statement on Saturday.
The force’s Chaplaincy Branch and Welfare Department are providing support to family members, friends and colleagues of Barrett.
