The police have identified the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier who was fatally shot in an attack along Molynes Road in St Andrew early Monday morning.

The deceased is 26-year-old Private Fernando Dixon of Greater Portmore, St Catherine.

The identities of his attackers, who were traveling on a motorcycle, have not been released by the police.

According to the police report, two men clad in black attire and riding a black Honda bike without a plate approached Dixon’s Audi motor vehicle, which had four other occupants, and opened fire.

Dixon attempted to defend himself by using the vehicle to hit the attackers, killing them both on the spot.

Despite his bravery, Dixon succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).

The police have recovered two firearms from the scene: a 5.56 M16 rifle with a magazine and a Taurus pistol.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police are yet to release further details about the incident.
