An investigation has been launched into the accidental shooting of a trainee policeman by a colleague at the Yallahs Police Station in St Thomas on Saturday.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 1:20 pm when the trainee policemen, who are currently on orientation, were in the kitchen area of the station.
One of the trainees, who was armed with a Glock pistol, allegedly dropped the weapon while attempting to retrieve it, causing the gun to discharge a round.
The bullet reportedly pierced a board partition and struck another trainee policeman in the lower body. The injured trainee was rushed to the Princess Margaret Hospital for medical treatment.
The Police High Command has ordered a probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the facts and circumstances leading up to the accidental shooting.
