Public sector teachers across the island are expected to begin receiving their retroactive payments and new monthly salary scales under the new compensation review by the end the working day.
That’s according to the Ministry of Education and Youth.
The announcement follows the decision by the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) last Monday, to accept the government’s offer under the revised compensation review package and the subsequent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
In a statement Tuesday, the Education Ministry says efforts are being made to ensure that all 25,000 including principals and vice-principals, receive their new salary increase starting Tuesday, through to Thursday of this week.
In the event that teachers need clarification on their payments and related matters, the ministry will be hosting a zoom meeting between 1:00 and 2:00 pm on Tuesday, to answer queries.
The education minister, senior officers from the central ministry and regional offices, as well as technocrats from the ministry of finance will participate in the meeting.
