A police constable has been charged following a probe into the alleged robbery and sexual assault of a female motorist in Black River, St Elizabeth last week.
Constable Alwayne Hill was charged for five offences based on a ruling delivered by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Hill has been charged with rape, grievous sexual assault, forcible abduction, corruptly soliciting and simple larceny.
All the alleged acts, according to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, were committed by the lawman whilst on duty.
He remains in custody.
It is alleged that about 10:00 pm on Monday, January 30, Hill was on duty with three other members during a vehicle check point operation.
During the operation, a woman was driving along the Crawford main road in a car with a demonstration license plate.
She was signalled to stop by members of a police team, who were manning the checkpoint.
The woman, whose name is being withheld, allegedly offered the cops money, but more was demanded.
According to the reports, the cops took the woman to an ATM in Black River, where she attempted to withdraw the $50,000, but was unsuccessful.
She was then told by one of the cops to drive to an automated teller machine, then to a nearby supermarket, where she was taken to the back of the building. The constable allegedly raped her and threatened to kill her if she reported it.
A report was made to the police, and a file submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who subsequently recommended that Hill should be charged.
The other three lawmen were released from custody.
