Clarendon mass murderer Rushane ‘Jett’ Barnett, who pleaded guilty to killing his cousin and her four children in Cocoa Piece, Clarendon in June this year, was sentenced on Thursday to five life sentences.
Supreme Court Justice Leighton Pusey has also ruled that Barnett will not be eligible for parole until he has served 61 years and eight months in jail.
The sentences were handed down inside the Supreme Court.
Pusey said Barnett deserved no discount based on the gruesome nature of the killings and the ages of the deceased children
The 23 -year-old inflicted 95 incised wounds and slashed the throats of his 31-year-old cousin Kimesha Wright, and her children: Kimanda Smith, 15; Shara-Lee Smith, 10; Rafaella Smith, five, and 23-month-old Kishawn Henry Jr.
The convict had resided with them at Wright’s home in Cocoa Piece district, Clarendon, when he murdered them due to the older cousin allegedly dissing her at her shop.
The bodies were discovered on Tuesday, June 21, sending the nation into a state of shock.
Barnett pleaded guilty in July to the charges, with the Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn removing her death penalty notice served on the then accused now convict.
