Within the first 36 hours of the declaration of the state of public emergency (SOE) in the parish of St Catherine, the security forces have reaped success in the apprehension of wanted men and illegal firearms.
A release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Communications Unit (CCU) said two firearms – a submachine gun and a revolver – were seized during operations within the first 36 hours of the SOE.
In addition, hree wanted men were also apprehended.
“Two of the men were held for Sexual Offences and the other for murder.
The names of wanted men are being withheld until charges are proferred,” the JCF said.
Meanwhile, another firearms was also made in another section of St Catherine.
The seizure occurred on Saturday afternoon when a police team seized one firearm with a magazine and three 9mm rounds of ammunition during an operation on Valdez Road.
Reports are that about 4:30 pm, lawmen were in the area when one Intra-tec sub-machine gun, one magazine and three 9mm rounds of ammunition were found under an old truck.
Law enforcers reported that they have made no arrests in connection to that seizure.
Investigations are ongoing.
