20-y-o man charged with murder of 17-y-o female student

The police have made a breakthrough into the murder of 17-year-old Denham Town High School student, Devenese Nelson on June 26.

Charged with her murder is 20-year-old Shawn Stanbury otherwise called ‘Country’, of Henden in Norwood, St James.

Stanbury has also been charged with accessory to murder, illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

He was previously listed as a person of interest in the case.

The main suspect, Alejandro Eric Murdock, remains on the run. He is the 17-year-old father of Devenese’s baby.

Reports are that, sometime around 11:00 pm on June 26, the police responded to calls about an explosion in Kings Heights, Denham Town.

Upon their arrival,Nelson was found at the scene with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. She was also in the nude.

Stanbury, the police said, was charged following a caution statement and interview in the presence of a Justice of the Peace.

His court date is being finalised.
